Drawing from Film

These drawings are produced while watching a film, when I see a shot I like, I pause the film and attempt to draw the still within 4 minutes. I produce the drawings using concertina sketchbooks prepared with water-soluble graphite and then drawn over with oil pastels and pencil crayon. The concertina effect gives the appearance of a film strip when they are displayed and the selection of shots being based on aesthetics rather than plot significance presents an alternative narrative construction to the films. The drawings tend to improve as the film progresses as my drawing abilities warm up and become more relaxed.

These are also available as commissions for the film of your choice.
