Currently based between London and her home town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, artist Emily North has had a varied academic career. Emily briefly studied Architecture at The Glasgow School of Art (2012) before transferring to Newcastle University (2013-2016) to study Ancient History where she received a BA First Class Hons. for her dissertation, ‘How Should We Construe the Shifting Representation of Cleopatra from Antiquity to the Present day?’
In 2016 Emily moved to London to undertake an MA in Arts and Cultural Management at King’s College London, receiving an MA Merit for her Arts Based Research Project ‘Radical Act: an Examination of Zine Culture’ for which she produced a zine about fanzines.
In Autumn 2019 Emily undertook the Drawing Intensive term at The Royal Drawing School, studying modules in ‘Hogarth’s London’, ‘City Parks and Gardens’, ‘Drawing a Head’ and ‘Drawing from Film’. Going on to take further courses with the RDS, ‘Drawing a Story’ (2020) and ‘The Drawing Marathon’ (2020).
In 2020 Emily began an MA in Fine Art Drawing at Camberwell College of Art, where she developed a body of work exploring the importance of youth culture and nightlife and attempted to answer the question ‘How can one communicate the experience of fantasy as memory in the context of nightlife and clubs?’ through the installation Deterioration, 2021. Emily graduated in 2021 with an MA Merit. During her degree she took part in several shows:

Emily is currently working on a new body of work exploring the relationship between memory and place and the sense of belonging. She is also working on a book of drawings as part of her artist residency at Reference Point. Emily is also taking part in the alternative art school Conditions Studios Online Programme 2024/25 under the mentorship of artist James Lewis.
She was a semi finalist for the RBA Rome Scholarship 2022 and her painting Ex Static // Ecstatic, 2021 was shown as part of the 'RBA RISING STARS 2022’ exhibition at The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) in Mayfair, Central London from April - July.
Her painting Deterioration Part I was put on a billboard by DAZED X BUILDHOLLYWOOD in June 2022 as part of their ‘Show Us Your Club!’ project.
In May 2023 she auctioned two original drawings for Art on a Postcard raising money for War Child. The drawings were exhibited at the Soho Revue Gallery.
