I am a fine artist working primarily with drawing, acrylic painting and collage. My work explores memory as a constructed fantasy and the moments that make up periods of self reflection. For some time I have been considering the interpersonal relationships of myself and my contemporaries, from modern dating scenarios, the club space and time spent alone. I use cheap flowers picked up from the petrol station as a motif to examine the cracks in these relationships and frequently use depictions of cigarettes as a way to indicate an instance of time. I am currently working on a new body of work investigating the role of memory in place and becoming as I have recently been living between my hometown of Barnsley in South Yorkshire and London, my home for the last 8 years, due a decline in my father’s health. My work allows me to communicate feelings that are hard to express in words about shared senses of loneliness and yearning for connection.
