Ashtrays and Cigarettes

The smoking cigarette is a recurring motif in my paintings as a way to show an interval of time. Stubbed out cigarettes then function as records of individual moments, there is a finite amount of time a cigarette can burn for, around 5-10 minutes, by painting these butts I hope to convey the sense of time spent and the fleeting passing of moments.
