Nostalgia for the Night

Nostalgia for the Night brings together various works drawn from an interest in nightlife and clubbing. The diverse range of works, including painting, drawing and installation, explore the idea of memory as a constructed fantasy in the context of nightlife and examines the cultural importance of clubbing as a form of escape and as an ecstatic activity, but one that is an inherently ephemeral experience.

The installation Deterioration sought to capture this experience of clubbing in the form of a simulacra of a club, complete with ghostly dancers and a distorted muffled soundtrack.

‘Where’s the party? … must be the epitaph of London. The party was always somewhere else, at someone else’s place.’
